Accommodation books out 6–8 months before race weekend. If you're reading this within 90 days of the race, expect to pay a 40–60% premium over the rates below — or consider San Antonio (80 miles south) as a budget base with a daily drive in.
Best for: Nightlife, live music, walkability, and the full Austin experience Price range: $350–700/night during race week Why it works: You're 15 minutes from COTA via the MetroRail shuttle from Downtown Station. Everything Austin is famous for — the bars, the tacos, the live music on 6th Street and Rainey Street — is walkable. Book a hotel on or within two blocks of Congress Avenue for best access. The Kimpton Hotel Van Zandt and the W Austin are the fan-favourite splurges. The Driskill is the most iconic property in the city.
Best for: Boutique hotels, Instagram moments, coffee and brunch culture Price range: $280–500/night Why it works: South Congress Avenue is Austin's coolest strip. You're 5 minutes from the MetroRail pickup point and surrounded by independent restaurants and vintage shops for exploring during FP1 and FP3 gaps. The Hotel Saint Cecilia and Hotel San José are boutique gems — book 9+ months out.
Best for: Budget-conscious fans who want character without corporate-hotel prices Price range: $180–360/night Why it works: East Austin has the best food scene in the city and is 20 minutes from COTA via rideshare or shuttle. Airbnbs here are excellent value and many hosts are F1-savvy with local tips baked in.
Best for: Zero commute stress on race day Price range: $400–900/night (limited options; books out first) Why it works: A handful of hotels sit within 3 miles of the circuit. You'll walk to Sunday's race without fighting traffic. Trade-off: you're isolated from the city. Best as a Sunday-night stay if you want to catch the podium and take your time leaving.
For 2026, book by April. Rates spike by 50% after July. Use hotel points if you have them — COTA race week is a peak redemption opportunity.

Also grab the Austin MetroRail app for real-time train status on the Capital MetroRail Red Line, which runs direct shuttle services to COTA on race weekend. Austin operates almost entirely on card — vendors inside COTA accept Visa, Mastercard, and contactless payments including Apple Pay. ATMs inside the venue charge $5–8 in fees; withdraw cash in downtown Austin before heading to the track.
