Austin lacks a traditional metro system, but Capital Metro's dedicated race shuttles and official COTA park-and-ride lots are the fastest and cheapest options by far. Capital Metro Race Shuttle
Capital Metro runs official COTA Race Day Express shuttles departing from the Palmer Events Center (900 Barton Springs Rd) and several Park & Ride lots including Oltorf/183 and Slaughter/MoPac. Round-trip tickets cost $20 and the ride takes 25–35 minutes. Shuttles run every 10–15 minutes from 3 hours before the first session and continue for 90 minutes after the chequered flag — buy tickets in advance at capmetro.org to skip the on-site queue.
Park & Ride
COTA operates five official Park & Ride lots (Lots A through E) located 2–5 miles from the circuit, each with free shuttle buses running directly to the main entrance gate. Parking costs $20–$30 per day, and the connecting shuttle takes under 10 minutes. Arrive by 8 AM on race day to secure a spot — lots fill to capacity by 9:30 AM for afternoon sessions. Exit strategy tip: head to a fan zone bar inside COTA for 30–45 minutes post-race and let the first surge of traffic clear.
Rideshare (Uber / Lyft)
Uber and Lyft operate a dedicated pickup/dropoff zone at COTA's East Gate on Circuit of the Americas Blvd — standard fare from downtown runs $18–$25 outbound, but expect $55–$120 surge pricing on race day return. Beat the surge by pre-scheduling your pickup 2 hours before race end, walking 10 minutes east to the overflow rideshare staging area on FM 812 where wait times and prices are significantly lower, or booking a flat-rate service through SuperShuttle ($35 per person). Taxis queue at the same East Gate zone and typically charge a flat $45–$60 from downtown with no surge.
