Qatar Grand Prix Β· 2026-11-29
Pack for the weather
Late November in Qatar delivers near-perfect race conditions β expect daytime highs of 26β28Β°C dropping to a comfortable 20β22Β°C by the time lights go out on Sunday. Bring a light layer for the grandstands; the desert breeze after sunset feels cooler than the thermometer suggests. Sunscreen is mandatory for Friday and Saturday afternoon sessions (FP1 at 16:30, FP3 at 17:30) when the sun is still low but intense. All three main events β FP2, Qualifying, and the Race β run under the Lusail circuit's full LED lighting rig, one of the most spectacular night-race settings on the calendar.
Download the app
Install the Qatar Grand Prix official app and the Karwa Bus app before you fly. The official app carries live session timings, circuit maps, and fan zone schedules β critical for planning your 90-minute gap between FP1 ending at 17:30 and FP2 kicking off at 20:00 on Friday. Karwa is Qatar's ride-hailing platform; surge pricing kicks in hard the moment sessions end, so pre-book your return ride during the formation lap. Also download the Metrash2 government app β it stores your Qatar digital visa and saves queuing time at immigration.
Cash vs Card
Qatar is overwhelmingly card-friendly β Visa and Mastercard are accepted at circuit merchandise stalls, food vendors, hotels, and malls without exception. Carry QAR 200β300 cash (β USD 55β82) for small market purchases at Souq Waqif or tipping service staff, where cards are technically accepted but cash is preferred. ATMs inside Hamad International Airport and at all major Doha malls dispense QAR instantly. Skip airport currency exchange counters; bank ATMs and credit card foreign-transaction rates beat them by 3β5%. There are no dynamic currency conversion tricks to worry about at the circuit itself.
Ear protection
Lusail runs 20 cars on a tight, flowing circuit with minimal natural sound escape β peak decibel levels in the grandstands hit 130 dB during a full field pass. Bring foam earplugs rated at NRR 33 as your baseline; if you're in Turns 1β4 (the compressed entry complex), upgrade to electronic noise-cancelling ear defenders so you can still hear commentary and team radio. Children under 12 must wear protection β Qatar race stewards enforce this at grandstand entry gates. Pack a spare set; the circuit's official merchandise store stocks basic foam plugs at QAR 25 but sells out by Saturday qualifying.
Local Etiquette
Qatar is a Muslim-majority country and Lusail is a purpose-built modern city β respectful dress outside the circuit is straightforward. Cover shoulders and knees in shopping malls and restaurants; inside the circuit, F1 fan attire is fully accepted. Alcohol is served exclusively at licensed hotel bars and a designated Fan Village zone within the circuit perimeter β do not bring alcohol in or out of the venue. Public displays of affection are frowned upon. Friday is the Islamic holy day; schedule any city sightseeing for Saturday morning before FP3. Photographing local people without permission, especially women, will cause offence β always ask first.
