Mexico City Grand Prix · 2026-11-01
Pack for the altitude
Mexico City sits at 2,240 metres above sea level — the highest circuit on the F1 calendar. Expect shortness of breath on arrival, especially if you're rushing between grandstands. Drink 3–4 litres of water daily, skip alcohol on your first night, and carry ibuprofen for altitude headaches. Light layers are essential: October race days hit 22°C by mid-afternoon but drop to 12°C after sunset. With FP2 finishing at 17:00 and Qualifying ending at 16:00, you'll feel that chill on the walk out.
Download the apps
Install the CDMX Movilidad app for metro and Metrobús status, and Uber before you land — it's legal, reliable, and dramatically cheaper than taxis (airport to Polanco runs MXN 180–250). DiDi is a solid backup. The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez is served by the Velódromo metro station on Line 9 (purple line) — trains run to Pantitlán in under 15 minutes. On race day, trains run extended hours with extra carriages; expect queues of 20–30 minutes post-flag.
Cash vs Card
Mexico runs on a dual economy: cards work in Polanco restaurants and upscale hotels, but street food, market tacos, and many circuit vendors are cash-only. Withdraw MXN 2,000–3,000 from an ATM on arrival (use bank-branded machines inside OXXO stores or Banamex branches — avoid standalone machines). The exchange rate at circuit money changers is 8–12% worse than bank ATMs. Budget MXN 150–300 for a taco lunch near the circuit; a michelada inside the venue runs MXN 200–280.
Ear protection
The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez is one of the loudest circuits on the calendar — the stadium section at Foro Sol amplifies engine noise into a wall of sound. Bring foam earplugs rated NRR 33 (available at any Walmart or Farmacias Guadalajara for MXN 50–80). Custom molded plugs let you hear conversations without losing the engine roar. Children under 12 must wear protection — stewards will enforce this at the gates. Don't rely on buying earplugs at the circuit; vendors sell out by Friday afternoon.
Local Etiquette
Mexico City fans are the most passionate on the calendar — 400,000 attend across the weekend. Arrive at least 45 minutes before sessions start: security queues at the main Puerta 6 gate can run 30–40 minutes on Saturday and Sunday. Greet vendors and locals with 'Buenos días' or 'Buenos tardes' — it opens doors. Tipping is standard at 10–15% in restaurants. Halloween falls on race weekend (31 Oct), so expect Día de Muertos costumes, decorated streets, and street parties in Condesa and Coyoacán after Saturday qualifying — plan your evening around it.
