Circuit of the Americas (COTA) is located 15 miles southeast of downtown Austin off State Highway 130. There is no direct public rail service to the circuit, so most fans rely on official shuttle buses, rideshare, or private vehicles. Plan for significant traffic congestion on race day β allow at least 90 minutes from downtown Austin.
Metro / Train
Austin's Capital MetroRail Red Line runs from downtown (Downtown Station) to Leander but does not reach COTA. Your best option is to take the MetroRail or Capital Metro bus Route 350 to the Southpark Meadows Transit Center, then transfer to a COTA-bound shuttle. A single Capital Metro fare is $1.25 (day pass $2.50). On race weekends, expect crowded buses and allow 60β75 minutes total from downtown.
Shuttle Bus
COTA operates official shuttle buses from multiple downtown Austin pickup points, including the Austin Convention Center (500 E Cesar Chavez St) and Republic Square. Round-trip shuttle tickets typically cost $15β$25 and must be purchased in advance at circuitoftheamericas.com. Shuttles run continuously from 7:00 AM on race day, with the last return departing 90 minutes after the final checkered flag. The ride takes 30β45 minutes depending on traffic.
Taxi / Rideshare
Uber and Lyft operate throughout Austin. Expect surge pricing of 2β4x on race day β a one-way trip from downtown to COTA typically runs $40β$80 during MotoGP weekend versus $20β$30 on a normal day. Rideshare drop-off and pickup is at Lot T off Elroy Road (not the main gate). After the race, wait times of 30β60 minutes are common. Consider scheduling your pickup 20 minutes before the race ends to beat the rush.
Driving & Parking
If driving, approach via SH-130 South to COTA Boulevard β avoid I-35, which gridlocks on race days. General parking lots open at 6:00 AM and cost $20β$40 per day (pre-purchase at circuitoftheamericas.com). Premium lots near Turn 1 and the Main Grandstand run $60β$100. Exit traffic can take 60β90 minutes, so bring snacks and patience or wait 45 minutes after the podium ceremony for crowds to thin.
