Autódromo José Carlos Pace sits in the Interlagos district of southern São Paulo, roughly 20km from the city's financial center and 35km from Guarulhos International Airport (GRU). São Paulo's traffic is legendary for a reason — on race days the surrounding roads lock up completely — so the only sensible strategy is to avoid driving altogether and use the city's rail network or official shuttles. The circuit is well-served by CPTM commuter rail, and race-week shuttles run from key metro hubs across the city.
CPTM Line 9 (Emerald Line)
CPTM's Line 9 (Emerald/Esmeralda) is the definitive race-day transport option — the 'Autódromo' station sits just 1.5km from the circuit's main gate, a flat 15-minute walk or a quick R$10 mototaxi ride. From Consolação or Vila Madalena in the Paulista corridor, take Metro Line 2 to Osasco direction, transfer at Pinheiros onto Line 9, and ride 8 stops to Autódromo — total journey under 45 minutes for R$5 (single fare, integrated ticket). Race-day trains run at 3-minute intervals from 07:00; budget an extra 20 minutes for platform crush on qualifying and race days, and position yourself at the front of the train for the quickest exit at Autódromo station.
Official Race Shuttles
Formula 1 and the circuit operator run branded shuttle buses from three designated metro pickup points: Consolação (Metro Line 2), Campo Belo (Metro Line 5 – Lilac), and Pinheiros (Metro Line 9/Line 4). Shuttles depart every 12 minutes from 06:30 on race days, drop directly inside the circuit's fan zone perimeter, and cost approximately R$30–40 for a return ticket — purchase in advance via the F1 official ticketing portal or the Interlagos circuit website to avoid queues. Return shuttles run for 90 minutes after the chequered flag; the last bus departs 2 hours post-race, so linger in the grandstands and let the initial crowd surge clear before heading to the shuttle bay.
Taxi / Rideshare (Uber, 99)
Uber and 99 (Brazil's dominant rideshare app) both operate surge pricing during race weekend — expect R$80–150 each way from the Paulista/Jardins hotel belt, rising to R$200+ in the 2-hour post-race window. The designated drop-off point is on Avenida Sen. Teotônio Vilela, Gate 3, approximately 400m from the main grandstands; drivers are not permitted closer on race day. Book your return ride before you enter the circuit — set the pickup point, schedule 90 minutes post-race, and lock in the pre-race rate. Avoid yellow taxis on race days: metered fares plus race-day traffic can triple the cost, and drivers often refuse the Interlagos route outright.
