Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Β· 2026-12-06
Pack for the weather
December is Abu Dhabi's sweet spot β daytime highs of 27β30Β°C under clear skies, dropping to 18β21Β°C once the sun sets. The race and qualifying sessions both run into the evening under the Yas Marina floodlights, so pack a light layer for the grandstands after dark. Sunscreen and sunglasses are non-negotiable for Friday and Saturday's afternoon practice sessions. There is zero chance of rain β leave the waterproofs at home and use the bag space for an extra layer instead.
Download the app
Get four apps before you land: the official F1 app for live timing and track data during sessions, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix app for circuit maps and gate information, and Careem (the regional Uber) for all ground transport. Add Talabat for food delivery back to your hotel on rest nights. Turn on offline maps in Google Maps for Yas Island β circuit Wi-Fi is available but heavily congested during peak session times, and you do not want to be squinting at a loading screen when the lights go out.
Cash vs Card
The UAE is one of the world's most cashless economies β Visa and Mastercard are accepted everywhere on Yas Island, from grandstand vendors to the Yas Marina restaurants. Keep AED 200β300 (β USD 55β80) in cash for the occasional taxi that won't run the meter on a card, or small souvenir stalls outside the circuit perimeter. ATMs at Yas Mall and inside the circuit dispense AED in 100- and 200-note denominations. Avoid exchanging currency at the airport β rates at city exchange houses (ask for Al Ansari Exchange) beat the airport by 3β5%.
Ear protection
Abu Dhabi's current-gen F1 cars are hybrid and notably quieter than the V10 era, but a full grid in a tight chicane sequence still hits 130+ decibels at close range. Bring foam earplugs rated NRR 29 or higher β they cost AED 5 at any pharmacy β or invest in motorsport ear defenders (Alpine or Peltor) if you have grandstand seats near Turn 1 or the marina straight. Children under 12 should wear ear defenders, not foam plugs. You can hear the PA and talk to your neighbours with proper plugs in; you cannot hear anything for a day if you skip them.
Local Etiquette
The UAE is a Muslim country with a relaxed attitude toward visitors during major international events, but a few rules are firm. Alcohol is served inside the circuit's licensed venues and at Yas Island hotels β public drinking outside those zones is not permitted. Dress modestly when leaving the circuit for Abu Dhabi city: covered shoulders and knees are expected in malls, mosques, and on public transport. Photography of local women without consent is illegal. Fridays are the Islamic holy day β plan any city-centre visits for Saturday evening or Sunday morning. Tipping 10β15% is appreciated but not mandatory.
